We have spent several days touring Yellowstone National Park. Day one, we did most of the lower loop. That included quite a lot of the geysers including Old Faithful. We arrived at the park at 7:30am and after stopping and walking thru Fountain Paint pot, we arrived at Old Faithful around 9:00am. We were just in time for the eruption, which was scheduled for 9:10am (give or take 10 minutes). There is 2 rows of benches around the geyser and there were a lot of people but we did get a front seat. There was a lot of steam and then all of a sudden it started shooting the water, but with all the steam it was really hard to see.
Red Spouter is the newest geyser hole. It was created by the 7.3 earthquake in 1959.
You see steam vents, geysers and mud pots.
Our second day in the park, we decided we would go later in the day. We were trying to see some animals.
I did see a black bear, but I was going to the other side of the street to get a better angle for the picture and he decided to cross the street right in front of me. I got so flustered I couldn’t get a good shot.
There are also some beautiful waters. This park is huge and I know we didn’t see it all. In the 2 days we drove close to 250 miles around the park!
Soon we will move south to the Tetons. Looking forward to more spectacular views and more animals.
Absolutely gorgeous for sure. I certainly understand getting flustered if a bear is heading your way.
ReplyDeleteWhen I worked in the park 46 years ago, Old Faithful was really predictable, within two minutes and it also was much higher. Saw where some of the roads melted from the hot geysers. Glad you've seen so much of it whileyou were there. The Tetons are also incredible.
ReplyDeleteYellowstone is Paul's favorite place to visit. Looks like you had a great three days.
