More Cody Wyoming

Yesterday afternoon, we went to Old Trail Town.  This is a collection of historic buildings that had been taken apart and reassembled to form this town.

       

   

This the grave site of Jeremiah Johnson.  We learned that Jeremiah Johnson died in Los Angeles. Actually I think it was Lancaster, Ca which is in LA county. He was ill and went there to an old soldiers home.  He died there and was buried in a veterans cemetery.  When they wanted to put a road through the cemetery, they started trying to find out who would be interested in moving his body.  The children from the area where at the burial along with Robert Redford who played Jeremiah Johnson in the movie.    There are some other graves that have been moved to the town, but his is the best. 

Today we went to Buffalo Bill Center of the West. Very nice museum, but it is huge!  The admission can be used for 2 days and if we had known that ahead of time, we would have gone yesterday and today.  There is actually 6 different areas.  We toured 3 of them, Buffalo Bill, Draper Natural History and the Plains Indian.

             

We also sat and watched another show with Rapter Birds. 

                       

It was a very interesting day.  This museum is a must see.  But do it in 2 days!!

Tomorrow we are moving on to Little Big Horn.

Travel to Cody

We sat in the Cat dealers lot for 4 days and of course the motorhome started.  They thought it might a check valve and we were going to have them change it but once he got to the engine under the bed, he realized he couldn’t get to it easily.  They would have to take the whole bedroom apart and we would have to stay in a motel for a night.  They couldn’t guarantee that was the problem.  So we opted to do nothing. 

After we dumped our tanks and filled with fresh water, we pulled out of Rock Springs around 1pm.  We had no problems with the drive and arrived in Cody around 6pm. Most of the drive was flat open range land except for a very pretty drive through Wind River Canyon.  From a distance, it looked like we were going to have to climb some big mountains, but the road just kind of wove through them.

           

This morning we went into Cody to walk the town.  We saw this hotel and we decided to have breakfast. 

  

              The Irma Hotel was built by William “Buffalo Bill” Cody in 1902.

               He maintained a suite and an office there.

               When the railroad went through Cody, he decided to also build a hotel in Wapiti.

               From Wapiti, it was a short trip to Yellowstone.

         

        

 

         

Tomorrow we plan to tour more of Cody Wyoming.

Out with old…In with the new

Here are pictures of our broken windshield and the new replacement.

This is where the rock hit.

Windshield is complete, however we are still in Rock Springs.  Again we are having problems starting the motorhome.  We were going to have the windshield replaced yesterday, but couldn’t get the motorhome started.  We had a mobile mechanic come and change the fuel filter.  Thought that was it. But when we tried to start it again today, it wouldn’t start.  Had the same mobile mechanic come out and we got it started.  We went and dump our tanks and left the motorhome running the whole time they replaced the windshield.  We have found a different Cat dealer who will be able to fix us, but not until Monday.  So here we sit, in the dealers lot.  Now we are actually hoping it won’t start.  Then they will be able to find the problem.  Really glad we were in such a big town with many truck mechanics.
